Sports Funding
Since March 2013, the government has provided additional funding of £150 million per year to improve the provision of physical education (P.E.) and sport in primary schools in England. It was decided in July 2017 that each school will receive £16,000 per year and an extra £10 per pupil per year. This was increased to £17,380.00 from 2020.
This funding, which is ring-fenced, is given directly to schools to use as they see fit for improving the quality of sport, P.E. and physical activity. At St Martin of Porres Catholic Primary School, we have always recognised the positive contribution of P.E. to the health and well-being of our pupils. As such, we strive to provide an innovative, varied P.E. curriculum - and provide an extensive range of extracurricular clubs - so as to positively influence the concentration, attitude and academic success of our pupils. We want all our pupils to leave St Martin of Porres Catholic Primary School equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
The School's Governing Body agree that the money must be used so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability.
We also aim to continue to increase the number of sports competitions we enter.
